OPLIAM: Indigenous Musician | Embracing ‘Alter-Native Rock’ and ‘Native Americana’ Styles
Genre-blending musician OPLIAM, born and raised in Minneapolis and now based in Chicago, is a master at pushing musical boundaries. Blending Alter-Native Rock, Native Americana, and Bedroom Pop, he has built a passionate international fan base and captivated crowds across Turtle Island, Australia, Hawaii, and Aotearoa (NZ) over the last decade.
Building on the momentum of his 2024 release Apocalypse Dance Party, OPLIAM is set to unveil his most ambitious work yet: SEROTONIN SOLDIER. As his first double album and largest creative undertaking to date, the project marks a significant milestone in his career. The first half of this expansive collection dropped on June 12, 2026, with the complete double album arriving just in time to celebrate Indigenous Peoples Day (October 12, 2026) This phased rollout offers a deep dive into OPLIAM’s evolving sound, providing a powerful showcase for his signature “Alter-Native” sound.
But OPLIAM’s creative talents extend far beyond the realm of music. In 2022, he made waves in the literary world with the publication of his debut book, “Indigenous America,”
published by Penguin Random House; the book is a captivating exploration of the true history of the United States, aimed at young readers. OPLIAM is a Mohawk descendant; his family originates from Kahnawake and was enrolled tribal members of the Saint Regis Mohawk Tribe (Akwesasne)
. He remains deeply rooted in his identity. OPLIAM continues to explore and share his cultural heritage through both his music and his writing.
